The URC Flour Division celebrates 50 years of service last year - 2020. Behind their five decades of success in the business are URC Flour’s dedicated and loyal employees. They serve as the backbone of the industry—providing Filipinos with quality products and services throughout the years.
Conrado Cruz, the Packing Supervisor of URC Flour’s Packing Operations, is one of the many loyal employees in the company with more than 30 years of stay. Below, he shared with us the lessons he’s learned working for URC Flour since 1981, and why he chooses to stay with the business and insists on staying for many more years to come.
Growth and development
One of the life lessons Mr. Cruz gained from being an employee of URC Flour Division for 39 years is that there is always room for growth. “Always look at the bright side. You always have to keep in mind to continuously improve your job performance, work hard enough for your efforts and skills to be recognized, and always strive to learn to be able to progress,” shares Mr. Cruz.
At URC Flour, employees are highly encouraged to develop their career by partaking in continuous training and workshops provided. “There is practical communication from well-experienced colleagues where they share their technical know-how and guidance,” he adds.
The value of trust
Throughout his years working for the company, the biggest challenge he encountered was having to connect with his team. When he got promoted as a supervisor, Mr. Cruz became part of different committees working to improve the employees’ welfare and working conditions. Having many people beside him to work with, he found it difficult to relate with his peers.
However, not fazed by this obstacle, Mr. Cruz learned the importance of trusting his co-employees to do the job together. “Trust is an important factor,” Mr. Cruz shares. To achieve similar goals, he realized that by knowing your team both professionally and personally, you can build strong working relationships.
Gratitude from the heart
If there’s one word to describe his working experience with URC Flour, Mr. Cruz sentimentally answers that it’s “grateful.” He is very thankful to have very supportive peers who generously share their knowledge and skills to help him achieve his goals, especially his Manager whom he treasures the most.
Here to stay and to seize the future together
From giving him the chance to study during his stay in college to working with people he now considers family, Mr. Cruz says, “Sometimes, being able to work comfortably and having the security from the company can be more important than the fat pay from other companies,” and that’s why he’s been with URC Flour for so many years already and plans to stay for as long as he can.
When asked what he is looking forward to the most in his continuous service with URC Flour, Mr. Cruz says he expects the company to continue building strong employee-work relationships and further adds that the company should continue to provide employee interactions to give everyone a chance to bring fresh ideas to the table.
“It is also important and healthy for the management to continue listening to the work issues raised by the employees. Cross-training can be considered to provide new tasks and allow us to step outside of our comfort zones,” Mr. Cruz shares.
Out of 50 years, Mr. Cruz stayed by URC Flour’s side for 39 years to serve the Filipino people. As the company continues to grow and prosper, it brings its employees together towards success. By imparting values and knowledge, letting them grow in their talents, and making use of their capabilities, URC Flour is every employee’s partner towards a future worth looking forward to.
